Día de los Muertos 2024 Featured Artist

Candy Mayer

Candy Mayer is a full time artist, using many different media and styles. Her greatest love is drawing in any medium. “There is nothing more beautiful than an expressive, fluid line on a piece of paper.” Her love of detail and color adds life to her drawings, pastels and paintings. While living in El Paso for twenty four years, Candy embraced the area and created landscapes and still lifes of the Borderland in pastels, acrylics, pen and ink, and mixed media collage.

She continues to use Día de los Muertos and religious saints themes. One of her signature styles are her pastels done in a Van Gogh Style. She uses a dark background to contrast with the vibrant colored pastel strokes applied similar to Vincent Van Gogh’s brush strokes. Most paintings are local landscapes and still lifes.

Candy moved to Birmingham, Alabama in June, 2023. She is adapting her art to a totally different landscape than the high desert of El Paso. The hills, trees and rivers of the area are a new inspiration for her. The Buck Creek area in Helena has been her first subject for her new works. Her research of the architecture and landmarks of downtown Birmingham has led to new mixed media collages.
