Arts Outreach & Programs
Since 1996, Bare Hands has created and contributed to numerous community arts education and outreach projects in a variety of venues.
ART CLUB - Our decade-long series of immersive summer arts programming in partnership with the YWCA of Central Alabama.
ARTS FESTIVALS - Birmingham’s Día de los Muertos festival and Birmingham Taco Fest.
EDUCATIONAL INSTALLATIONS in partnership with organizations, including Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Birmingham Museum of Art and Homewood Library.
CLASSES & WORKSHOPS - A variety offerings, many centered around the Día de los Muertos festival on making sugar skulls, memorial boxes, tissue paper flowers, and paper mache masks.
PACKETS FOR TEACHERS - For classroom activities regarding Día de los Muertos; making memorial boxes, tissue paper flowers and paper mache masks.
EXHIBITS & PERFORMANCES - Hundreds of events featuring local visual and performing artists.
In 2025, we begin BARE HANDS COMMUNITY ARTS CENTER (BHCAC), our new home, located in the heart of Woodlawn! We are working diligently as we we prepare to renovate and open.
Planning year-round arts education classes and events offered at the arts center
Developing them in collaboration with Woodlawn community members
Building on our education model which;
Employs local working artists as teaching mentors; and
Engages students, of all ages, as collaborators and protégés.
Planting roots as a neighbor and community partner who, through community-based arts programs,
Supports and works alongside Woodlawn United and the four Neighborhood Associations of the Woodlawn Community
Promotes purpose-built communities and continued neighborhood revitalization
Addresses critical community concerns
Makes arts education accessible to all residents, including Spanish-speakers
Maintains a thriving safe haven to create, exhibit, perform, learn and inspire
