BARE HANDS Continues!
Bare Hands Gallery is now BARE HANDS INC. Our brick & mortar gallery space closed in December of 2010, but the non-profit organization remains intact and continues much of our work, such as, producing Alabama's Annual Day of the Dead Festival and our After School Art Club at the Downtown YWCA.
Coming up Wednesday, November 2, 2011
Dia de los Muertos numero nueve en Memoria a Guillermo Castro
We know how much you love the Day of the Dead Festival. We love it too and need your financial support to see that it happens on Nov 2. Your money not only helps create the event, it also helps sustain the spirit and authenticity of the festival and keeps it affordable for all. We keep admission and food prices low so that more people and families can afford to participate. We use money generated by the festival to fund our After School Art Club for homeless children at the Downtown YWCA, and to seed the next Day of the Dead Festival. Our goal is to become self-sustaining which is vital for survival in the current economy. Help us make your celebration of culture and community-building flourish, and honor Guillermo Castro’s exuberant life! It takes about $20,000 to produce the festival. We have $2,000 seed money, have raised $11,061 and have $6,939 to go!
Donations of ALL sizes are appreciated. The SMALLEST GIFT is often the TIPPING POINT to SUCCESS! $5 (& over) gets you a big sweet hug & handwritten thank you note, and buys 10 battery tea lights for the altars.
$50 lists your name on our “Friends of the Festival” banner, and buys one bucket of papier-mâché paste.
$100 brings you an artist-decorated sugar skull or mask, and purchases paint, brushes, and glitter for one festival craft activity for 300 children.
$500 gives you a festival t-shirt & sugar skull or mask, and rents necessities like port-o-lets or safety lighting.
$1,000 garners you a 2 festival t-shirts, a sugar skull or mask & an artist-made skull pendant, and pays for a weather-resistant stage.
The festival lost one of its founding supporters and Bare Hands Board members in July - Guillermo Castro. Guillermo fed many of us with wonderful food from his Sol y Luna and Cantina restaurants. More so, he fed our city with the generosity of his spirit and heart. Guillermo’s family has very generously asked that donations in his memory be made to Bare Hands in support of the Day of the Dead Festival that he loved so dearly.
YOUR DONATION can be made via the PayPal link below or mailed to: BARE HANDS INC PO Box 13961 Birmingham AL 35202-3941
Make checks payable to Bare Hands Inc with Day of the Dead or Guillermo noted on the memo line. Donations are tax-deductible. A receipt and note of thanks will be mailed to you, as well as information on receiving your donation premiums listed above.
Spread the word. Together, we can fund and sustain our beautiful festival!
